Check out my Passive House – Circa 1977

Windows. Ventilation. Perfectly pitched roof. Sited for passive solar gains. OK, so maybe the use of not-so-insulated concrete blocks would keep much heat, but the “fort” I made when I was 7 years old is a good example of using native materials to build habitable structures with minimal impact to the environment. Eventually, when I grew a little taller, the raw materials of the fort became the foundation for a shed….that still stands in my childhood home today. Originally, these blocks were salvaged – on site – from the small barn the previous owners had built in the early 1950’s. Some things – and most good things – were truly meant to last, and be useful for a lifetime. #passivehaus #passivehouse #reuse #recycle #sustainable #construction
