Parenting as a Gen Xer: We’re the first generation of parents in the age of iEverything – The Washington Post

Here’s a very well done post about we “GenX’ers” once again stuck in the middle of two dominant sociological forces – Boomers and Millennials.

It’s never been more difficult to toe the line and preach “do as I say not as I do” to our kids…especially if you are in the business of marketing or creating content professionally.

Again, I think it comes down to hard work and actively making the choice to talk about and create an environment where there are easy and available alternatives for our kids to have experiences – in real time – in the real world too.

Parenting as a Gen Xer: We’re the first generation of parents in the age of iEverything – The Washington Post.

There’s a poignant commercial (for a phone company i think) that shows a teen girl engaged with her phone while on vacation with her family. The exasperated Dad says ” I thought we said no phones?” to which his wife shrugs and agrees.

They return home and a presented with a cute video presentation that the daughter  was apparently working on while her parents thought she was “just wasting time and missing out on the fun”.

Let’s not be too quick to judge and vilify new technology as we always seem to do. There is good and bad in all things – from the Bible to the Beatles.

I say ‘all things in moderation’.

As the author sad in this post, the future comes to us, no matter what. No, the Revolution will no longer be televised. It’s in your inbox. Just remember, WE have the power to either click here or not.

Just like the oceans, the wind and sky – the internet will always be there – with or without you. Only you can decide how much space you want to give it in your life.

Generation X Is Sick of Your Bullshit.

Yeah, Reality Bites nailed it 20 years ago. And let’s not forget the lamenting of Citizen Dick…they’re huge in Belgium after all.

Why can’t Generation X get ahead at work?

BBC – Capital – Why can’t Generation X get ahead at work?.

So glad to see that I’m not alone in feeling this way – squeezed by the boomers who won’t / can’t retire – and the millennials willing to work twice as long for half as much as the X’ers trying to make their mortgage payments and feed their 2.3 kids.

Of course, the $1m question is…So what are you gonna do about it ?
