Here’s a very well done post about we “GenX’ers” once again stuck in the middle of two dominant sociological forces – Boomers and Millennials.
It’s never been more difficult to toe the line and preach “do as I say not as I do” to our kids…especially if you are in the business of marketing or creating content professionally.
Again, I think it comes down to hard work and actively making the choice to talk about and create an environment where there are easy and available alternatives for our kids to have experiences – in real time – in the real world too.
There’s a poignant commercial (for a phone company i think) that shows a teen girl engaged with her phone while on vacation with her family. The exasperated Dad says ” I thought we said no phones?” to which his wife shrugs and agrees.
They return home and a presented with a cute video presentation that the daughter was apparently working on while her parents thought she was “just wasting time and missing out on the fun”.
Let’s not be too quick to judge and vilify new technology as we always seem to do. There is good and bad in all things – from the Bible to the Beatles.
I say ‘all things in moderation’.

Just like the oceans, the wind and sky – the internet will always be there – with or without you. Only you can decide how much space you want to give it in your life.
