Like the song says “God is great, beer is good and people are crazy”. Marketers take note – never underestimate the shortsitedness of the American consumer.
I’ll offer a more positive spin and suggest the two are unrelated. People are buying more trucks now because there is more “work” being done, rebates on trucks are huge, and older models are falling apart and people finally have a few $$$ in their pockets to replace them.
On the other hand, hybrids are pretty reliable – especially compared to SUVs and trucks. There’s really not a lot of benefit of trading them in b/c there’s not much difference in gas mileage etc.
Prius and other smarter built vehicles are simply falling victims of their own success. That’s OK in my book. Spend your money elsewhere or (gasp) save it for when prices go back up – for everything.
